The Chinese President, Xi Jingping, has offered to host a meeting with Pacific Island Leaders in Port Moresby.
It will be a first at the APEC leaders summit in November this year.
PNG's Prime Minister, Peter O'neil has conveyed this invitation, during his address to the Fijian Parliament, yesterday.
Pacnews agency reported that Mr O'neil stated that only leaders of Pacific Island countries with diplomatic relations with China will be part of the meeting.
Tuvalu, Palau, Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Nauru and Kiribati are all supporters of Taiwan.
Mr O'neil also invited the Pacific Islands leaders to the Port Moresby APEC leaders summit.
Stating that this summit's theme is "Harnessing Inclusive Opportunities, Embracing the Digital Future".
