Over 15 countries will compete in the Melanesian Championship Games in May in Port Vila.
Athletes from Melanesia and other invited countries will compete in the Melanesian Championships from the 9th to 11th of May.
During the Melanesian Championship, athletes will not only be aiming for Gold but they will also be competing to qualify for the Youth Olympics which is scheduled to happen later this year in Argentina.
Athletes from invited nations will be competing against Melanesian athletes for a spot in the Youth Olympics 2018. Athletics and other Field competitions will be the main events in this upcoming regional sporting event.
According to initial statistics received from Athletics Vanuatu, Australia will be sending a large contingent of 92 athletes followed by New Zealand with 16 athletes, New Caledonia with 15 athletes, Fiji with 10, and the list goes on.
Athletes from over 15 Pacific countries are expected in Port Vila during the Melanesian Championships with Vanuatu expected to field the largest number of athletes.
