New Zealand and CARE International Vanuatu have signed an agreement to improve temporary family shelters for displaced Ambae families living on Maewo.

The assistance will enable CARE and the Vanuatu Shelter Cluster to strengthen family shelters through the distribution of reinforcement materials and the provision of awareness, training and technical support to displaced families. CARE will also improve access to cyclone resilient community evacuation centres through mapping existing evacuation buildings and undertaking reinforcement and strengthening work.

This assistance will help to protect displaced Ambae families and Maewo communities from poor weather and the approaching cyclone season.

New Zealand is providing over VT21 million under this agreement.
