The Vanuatu Ministry of Health has issued advice to the general public to assist authorities in reduce dengue fever cases in the country.
Dr Basil Leodoro, a senior medical doctor in the Northern Provincial Hospital in Santo has sais that this is also a concern as cyclone season approaches and potential heavy rains.
Dr Leodoro said that the Ministry of Health are asking medical practitioners to advice people in continued clean-ups and removing or reducing water catchment places that mosquitoes use as breeding sites.
He says that these precautions must be taking, as the disease has recently been at out-break levels in other countries and territories in the region.
The doctor also mentioned although there are interventions such as the Wolbachia bacteria program and use of mosquito nets, cleaning of yards is also very important especially in the case of the dengue mosquito which is active during the day.
