The Malvatumauri council of chiefs has requested, through the head of state, for chiefly disputes not to enter the formal court, but for government to establish a law to allow for chiefly disputes, to be solved under a customary and cultural system.

President of the Malvatumauri council of chiefs, Chief Willie Grey Plasua explains that this is similar to the custom land, which is taken back to the customary level, and the formal court can only help with the process .

Chief Plasua says custom and cultural decisions are important to Vanuatu.
