The Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat recently participated in the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) 21st Monitoring, Control & Surveillance (MCS) Working Group meeting from 19 - 23 April 2018 at FFA headquarters in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
The MSG Secretariat was invited by FFA as an Observer to the MCS WG meeting and was represented by Mr Stanley Wapot, Programme Manager Sustainable Development.
Preparations are underway within MSG Secretariat to formalize close collaboration on related Fisheries matters with FFA through a MoU and for the MSG Secretariat to be an Observer in the FFA process.
The MSG Secretariat continues to progress the mandate of the MSG Leaders on Sustainable Development to focus on the wise use and protection of one of the most important natural resource sector in Melanesia and the Pacific – Fisheries. In addition, collaboration on the broader issues of Maritime Border Security and the wise use of the Seas and Oceans resources of Melanesia and the wider Pacific.
